M urphy Radio, a British m anufacturer, was estab-
lished in 1929 by Frank M urphy and E.J. Power in
W elwyn Garden City. The com pany initially
focused on producing hom e radio sets and later
expanded in to television m anufacturing. M urphy
Radio was known for its innovative designs, includ-
ing the first British radio with auto
m atic tuning correction and
station nam es on the tuning scale.
The com pany also played a significant
role during W orld W ar II, designing
and building radio sets for the British Arm ed
Forces. In 1962, M urphy Radio m erged with Bush
Radio, but the M urphy brand continued, particu-
larly in India, where it becam e a popular and iconic
brand.
