Pennzoil’s
Pennzoil’s history is rooted in Pennsylvania’s early oil industry, with its origins
tracing back to the South Penn Oil Company, founded in 1889. Pennzoil as a brand
emerged from the popularity of the company’s motor oil, and the
company itself took its modern form through mergers in 1963. Over
time, Pennzoil grew through acquisitions and mergers, including a
merger with Quaker State in 1998, before being acquired by Royal
Dutch/Shell in 2002.
