Castrol
The company, Castrol, has its origins in the late 19th century when Charles Wakefield
founded “CC Wakefield & Company” in 1899, selling lubricants for trains and heavy
machinery. Wakefield later developed a new lubricant by adding castor oil to
his formula, which he named “Castrol”. This new oil became popular for
automobiles and airplanes, and the company became known for its
sponsorship of motorsport events. Castrol was later acquired by Burmah Oil
Company in 1966 and then by BP in 2000. US company
