French polishing is a traditional wood finishing technique that
involves applying multiple thin coats of shellac dissolved in
alcohol to a wooden surface, using a special pad lubricated
with oil. The process originated in the 15th century,
becoming prominent in the early 18th century as French
craftsmen refined the method.
