Smith Corona’s history began in 1886 as the Smith Premier Type-
writer Company, founded by the Smith brothers in Syracuse, New
York. They gained prominence by producing typewriters that could
type both uppercase and lowercase letters. The company
later merged with Corona Typewriter Company in 1926 to
form L.C. Smith & Corona Typewriters Inc., known as Smith
Corona.
