These are hand-carved conch shells, known as
shankh in Hinduism , which are used for rituals
and as trum pets. The shells are often engraved,
with the top one appearing to have an “Om ”
design. They are a sacred em blem in Hindu
rituals, used to purify the envi-
ronm ent and invoke divine
pprreesseennccee.. TThhee eenndd of the shell is
rem oved to create a blowing hole,
allowing it to be used as a trum pet.
The sound produced is believed to dispel
negativity and was historically used to ward off
evil spirits.
