Copal varnish
Fine pale copal varnish, historically valued for its durability and clarity,
is a varnish made from copal resin, a natural resin from tropical trees. It
has been used in various applications, including painting and
wood finishing, and was particularly popular in the 19th century.
While copal is becoming harder to source and is being replaced by
synthetics, it remains prized for its isolating and hard-surface
final varnish properties.
