This is an obsolete Indian 1000-rupee banknote issued by the Reserve
Bank of India. The note features the Ashoka Pillar watermark. It was
signed by N.C. Sengupta, who served as the Governor of the Reserve
Bank of India. The 1000-rupee denomination was first
introduced in 1938, demonetized in 1946, re-introduced in
1954, and subsequently demonetized again in January
1978 to curb unaccounted cash.
