Britannia
JJ..BB.. Mangharam & Company, a prominent biscuit and confection-
ery manufacturer, was established in 1919 in Sukkur, Sindh
(now Pakistan). Initially, the company’s biscuits, particularly
the energy biscuits, were intended for British soldiers. However,
they gained popularity among children due to their taste and
nutritional value, being made with glucose,
sun-ripened wheat, and milk. The company’s
ssuucccceessss led to the expansion of its opera-
tions with branches in Bombay, Calcutta, and
Delhi. The Mangharam family, originally from
Sukkur, later migrated to Gwalior. After the death
of Seth J.B. Mangharam, the company was restructured in 1969
and 1977, and eventually, in 1983, a significant portion of its
production was shifted to Britannia Industries Ltd.
