Velcro
The history of Velcro, as a specific type of closure, is
separate from the history of Band-Aid adhesive
bandages, though both relate to Johnson & Johnson.
Band-Aids, invented by Johnson & Johnson em ployee
Earle Dickson, were created to help his
wife, Josephine, bandage her own
m inor kitchen injuries. Velcro, on
tthhee ootthheerr hand, is a h ook -a n d -loop
fastener system invented by Swiss
engineer George de M estral. Johnson & Johnson does
utilize Velcro in som e of its products, such as in wound
care for securing bandages, but they did not invent Velcro.
